Joanne Hughes [Operations Manager]
I started working at Bridport Leisure Centre in 2002 as the Centre's Membership Manager having previously been employed for 2 years in Tourism Development at Weymouth & Portland Borough Council.
My background is in marketing having graduated from the University of Luton in 1998 with a BA (Hons) in Business Studies with Marketing.
During my degree, I undertook a year long placement in marketing at Luton Business School and I also spent four months of the final year of my degree studying Services Marketing at the University of West Florida. In 1999 I completed my MSc in Tourism Management & Marketing at Bournemouth University.
I moved into the role of Marketing & Membership Manager at Bridport Leisure Centre in 2003 during which time I completed my Chartered Institute of Marketing Professional Diploma at UCY.
At the end of 2005 my daughter was born and following my return to work in 2006, I moved into the new role of Business Development Manager. Within this role I was responsible for implementing various specialist business development projects.
In June 2008 my second daughter was born and I returned to work full time as the Centre's Operations Manager which has proved to be a very challenging and exciting role. My third daughter was born in September 2010 and I returned to work in June 2011.
I very much enjoy my role as Operations Manager. No two days are the same and over the years I have been involved in some very exciting projects at Bridport Leisure Centre that have really enhanced and moved the facility forward. I am also lucky to work with such a great team of friendly people.
Although I enjoy sport, particularly swimming and netball, work and family life now take up most of my time.
